RefScout®'s PDFManager

Introduction

This program is designed to create HTML files or Excel Spreadsheets with description of pdf files saved on your hard drive and to update your local collection of PFD files each time you create such an HTML or EXCEL overview sheet.
To use this program it is necessary to save first all your pdf's using PubMed Id number (PMID) in the file name.
There are 2 possible filename formats recognised by RefScout PDFManager:
  • PMID.pdf
  • SuperPaperOfMyFavoriteAuthor.PMID.pdf
For the following paper correct filenames will be:
  • 14515251.pdf
  • J_Immunol_2003 Seiler_Kaufmann Early_granuloma_formation.14515251.pdf

Seiler P, Aichele P, Bandermann S, Hauser AE, Lu B, Gerard NP, Gerard C, Ehlers S, Mollenkopf HJ, Kaufmann SH.
Early granuloma formation after aerosol Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection is regulated by neutrophils via CXCR3-signaling chemokines.
Eur J Immunol. 2003 Oct;33(10):2676-86.
PMID: 14515251 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

For sure it will be difficult to rename all existing pdfs on your HDD
You need about 4 hours to rename in such way about 300 pdf's. Therefore, don't forget to save you pdf in the correct way when you downloading it! It is very easy to save new pdf's in such format.

NOTE:
This program is developed to search predefined patterns in the NLM Entrez-PubMed server response. As soon as NLM changes the format of the query, PDFM might not work any more with the new design.
